Summary

Everyone knows that high IQ is no guarantee of success, happiness, or virtue, but until Emotional Intelligence, we could only guess why。 Daniel Goleman's brilliant report from the frontiers of psychology and neuroscience offers startling new insight into our "two minds"—the rational and the emotional—and how they together shape our destiny。

Through vivid examples, Goleman delineates the five crucial skills of emotional intelligence, and shows how they determine our success in relationships, work, and even our physical well-being。 What emerges is an entirely new way to talk about being smart。

The best news is that "emotional literacy" is not fixed early in life。 Every parent, every teacher, every business leader, and everyone interested in a more civil society, has a stake in this compelling vision of human possibility。

Emotional Intelligence teaches you to manage emotions。 How to raise a child and how emotions play a important role in our day to day activities。

Very interesting book providing scientific backing and statistics in support of the importance of proper emotional training。 Interesting insight in the science behind emotions (what they are and how they come to be), and useful tips on how to handle overpowering emotions。 Unfortunately, incredibly dense and repetitive。 It could have use a good trimming of most repetitions。

This book is well worth the read。 It is very dense and towards the end I was looking forward to being finished。 Only because there is so much to learn in this book。 Ever wonder why people are the way they are。 Or wonder why people do certain things。 Children to adults to the elderly to different social circles。 I gained a lot from this book。

I like books that help me learn something。 I have read this before but it is still relevant。 People skills are so crucial and this book makes it clear。 It is actually a really simple concept but putting it into practice is difficult and takes time especially for people that struggle with interacting with others。 I can see members of my family diagnosed with autism that really struggle with some of these concepts。 Worth reading and discussing with others。

Yes, perhaps except to a person already invested deeply in psychology, psychiatry and/or neurobiology。 I believe it can offer much food for thought to understand oneself and others, though at the same time it should not be treated as a holy book。Hope you enjoyed my review! 。。。more

Number 2 of my 3 favourite books on interpersonal skills。My background is cognitive psychology, and I'm very suspicious of pop-science oversimplification of psychology, especially the kind that business management types treat as gospel。 So I was hugely suspicious of this, until I read it。The research basis of the material in this book is perfectly reasonable and not particularly controversial。 It's a useful model to understand your own emotions and those of others, very readable, and includes so Number 2 of my 3 favourite books on interpersonal skills。My background is cognitive psychology, and I'm very suspicious of pop-science oversimplification of psychology, especially the kind that business management types treat as gospel。 So I was hugely suspicious of this, until I read it。The research basis of the material in this book is perfectly reasonable and not particularly controversial。 It's a useful model to understand your own emotions and those of others, very readable, and includes some interesting material on the possibilities of teaching better emotional awareness in young people。 Highly recommended。 。。。more

It was okay。 I guess, I had too much expectations for this one。 But if you are already convinced that emotional intelligence matters, then the book can't give you a lot of new information。 Actually, it doesn't even explain how to transform and develop emotional intelligence other than during childhood。 It is important book。 But it is not something brilliant or mind-blowing。 It was okay。 I guess, I had too much expectations for this one。 But if you are already convinced that emotional intelligence matters, then the book can't give you a lot of new information。 Actually, it doesn't even explain how to transform and develop emotional intelligence other than during childhood。 It is important book。 But it is not something brilliant or mind-blowing。 。。。more

I love the concept of emotional intelligence, and this book has comprehensive research and applications。 I found the section dealing with teaching emotional literacy in schools particularly interesting。

Clearly dated and very much assumes traditional gender roles, but I did find some interesting nuggets here。

This book was the pioneer in talking about emotional intelligence in its day。 It certainly contains a lot of interesting information, but in general the message becomes repetitive and you don't get a lot of useful information to put into practice on a daily basis。 It is descriptive, but not very practical。 It could lose about 100 pages and still get your message across。 It is a great book for parents and teachers, most of their tips for learning emotional intelligence are aimed at teaching child This book was the pioneer in talking about emotional intelligence in its day。 It certainly contains a lot of interesting information, but in general the message becomes repetitive and you don't get a lot of useful information to put into practice on a daily basis。 It is descriptive, but not very practical。 It could lose about 100 pages and still get your message across。 It is a great book for parents and teachers, most of their tips for learning emotional intelligence are aimed at teaching children。 On the other hand, it would be good to have more adult-oriented content as well, since people need to learn these practices to teach them。 。。。more
